비제한 수식어는 피수식어의 필수부분이 아니며, 피수식어에 대한 부가적 정보만을 제공한다. 비제한 수식어는 반드시 comma로 분리해야 하며 생략해도 문장과 뜻의 골격은 그대로 유지된다.

[해설] 밑줄 친 원문은 맞습니다. (B)는 두 가지 문제가 있다. 첫째, as well than은 관용적 표현이 아니다. 둘째, 부사 once는 동사를 수식하므로 동사 앞에 위치해야 한다. (C)는 주어 자리에 ‘아르투로 토스카니니’ 라는 사람 대신에 ‘음악적 천재와 독설’이 유명가수에게 겁을 준 것을 암시하고 있어 틀렸다. (D)는 원문처럼 comma를 이용해 원문의 비제한 분사구를 비제한 관계사절로 변화를 주었지만 원문에 비해 어색하다. 토스카니니는 잘 알려진 독설(who had a well-known sharp tongue)을 가졌다는 관계사절 보다 원문처럼 토스카니니는 독설(가)로 잘 알려진 분사구 표현이 더 간결하고 나은 표현이다. English Commentary
The original sentence is correct. (B) introduces two new errors. First, the phrase as well than is not idiomatic; and second, the placement of once here is not as idiomatic as the placement of once in the original. (C) changes the meaning of the original by making tongue and musical genius the agents who act (instead of the person who acts). (D) is awkward compared to the original, and (E) contains a misplaced modifier that changes the meaning of the original by implying that it was the singer who possessed the sharp tongue and musical genius.
