[GMAT] 대명사가 가리키는 대상은 명확해야 한다 (2)

대명사는 문자 그대로 명사를 대신한다. 대명사가 어떤 명사 또는 다른 대명사를 대신하는지, 즉 대명사의 선행사가 어느 것인지를 명확히 알아야 글의 내용을 온전히 파악할 수 있다.

Stripped to its essentials, (B) has the structure “Marking the first time … was Huckleberry Finn.” (C) changes the intended meaning of the original, for (C) implies that the American vernacular had never been used before in any way—not just that it had never before been used in a novel. Finally, (E) asserts an illogical equivalence between an event and a book: “The first time … was Huckleberry Finn.”
